Classes have begun and it is a busy time. I am also moving my studio. This has put a crimp in my production and my eagerness to complete the Watermen boat. The boat must be crated before it can move from the studio to the other. I should have learned the first time with the 18' dory...trying to get that out of a third floor studio was pretty challenging. If you look at the older posts, you will see that the dory had to be dead-lifted down to the second floor, hauled through the main gallery, and then dead-lifted down to the first floor. The difference is that this boat is only 8'. The other difference, however, is this boat is constructed out of cast acrylic, not wood. The material moves differently. And, the structural damage from the summer is not completely repaired. The stern transom is glued back on. The bow transom is still half attached. Yet because this boat is smaller, I should, with much tender care from assistants, be able to maneuver it down the hallway and take the two turns to the freight elevator. The boat has to be held in the elevator at an angle so there is no pressure on either end. Once the boat is on the first floor, it can be crated. The crate is currently under construction. I will post more information in the days to come. The log of my recent seven thousand mile journey will continue once things settle down.
